About Nema Health

Nema Health is a survivor- and clinician-led virtual treatment program for PTSD and trauma. We are on a mission to help all trauma survivors find lasting peace & healing. Nema provides virtual, evidence-based treatment that helps people feel better faster—and stay better longer. We are committed to delivering care that’s accessible, trauma-specialized, and deeply patient-centered.

At Nema, we offer employees an unparalleled career opportunity: the chance to be part of a mission-driven company while shaping its future during a pivotal stage of growth. If you’re someone who thrives in fast-moving environments, values systems thinking, and cares deeply about expanding access to mental health care, you could be a great fit.

About the Role: Director People Operations

As Director of People Operations, you will be Nema’s first dedicated People leader, focused on building the systems and foundation of our people function that allow us to scale. Reporting to the COO, you'll own recruiting excellence, design thoughtful onboarding experiences, and build strong employee experiences that support our ~35-person team as we grow.

This is a hands-on builder role for someone who enjoys strategic thinking, creating structure from the early stages, and improving and iterating on processes as we grow. You'll partner closely with clinical leaders, operations teams, and executives to attract exceptional talent and build human-centered systems that drive engagement and performance. You'll start with a primary focus on talent acquisition and candidate experience, then expand into broader employee experience, manager enablement, and people strategy over time.

If you're energized by mission-driven work in healthcare, love solving complex recruiting challenges, and want to define what world-class people operations looks like in a scaling company, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Talent Acquisition & Hiring: Own end-to-end recruiting strategy with particular emphasis on clinician and operations roles
  • Onboarding & New Employee Experience: Enhanced Nema's onboarding experience through refined 30/60/90 day frameworks that accelerate new hire success and belonging
  • People Systems & Process Design: Optimize recruiting and people tools (ATS, HRIS, onboarding platforms) to support scale. Create documentation, templates, and playbooks that bring clarity and repeatability to people processes
  • Employee Experience & Engagement: Maintain a pulse on employee satisfaction through feedback systems driving recommendations for improvement. Develop lightweight feedback and growth processes that support development and accountability
  • Strategic Partnership with Leadership: Collaborate with leadership on headcount planning, hiring prioritization, and organizational strategy

After 6 months you have:

  • Driven early-stage clinician recruitment from intake through offer, including sourcing strategy development, candidate screening, and pipeline management
  • Partnered with clinical leadership to build and maintain a robust clinical talent pipeline that consistently meets hiring demands
  • Designed and launched recruiting analytics dashboards measuring key metrics including efficiency, time-to-hire, candidate quality, and experience
  • Collaborated with hiring managers to ensure new hires have clear role definitions, aligned expectations, and seamless cultural integration

After 12 months you have:

  • Reduced time-to-hire by implementing scalable interview frameworks, standardized scorecards, and streamlined recruiting workflows
  • Partnered with clinical hiring managers to design specialty-specific recruiting approaches that address unique talent market challenges
  • Enhanced Nema's employer brand and market visibility, resulting in stronger candidate pipelines and improved offer acceptance rates
  • Deployed optimized people systems (ATS, HRIS, onboarding tools) with clear documentation and repeatable processes that support higher-volume hiring
  • Created comprehensive playbooks and templates that enable consistent, high-quality people operations across the organization
  • Established systems to monitor employee engagement through quantitative and qualitative feedback, translating insights into actionable recommendations
  • Introduced lightweight performance feedback mechanisms that provide clarity on expectations, accountability, and support employee development
  • Collaborated with leadership on strategic workforce planning and hiring prioritization
  • Equipped people managers with training, resources, and coaching to strengthen leadership capabilities across the team

After 18 months you have:

  • Achieved strong engagement and satisfaction scores demonstrating measurable impact on employee experience
  • Established yourself as a trusted strategic advisor to leadership on talent strategy, organizational design, and growth planning
  • Embedded inclusive and equitable practices throughout the employee lifecycle—from hiring and development to day-to-day experience
  • Designed and launched programs that deepen employee connection, strengthen culture, and sustain engagement as the organization scales
  • Expanded the scope and impact of Nema's People function by taking ownership of additional HR domains and strategic initiatives

Qualifications

You will be a great fit if you:

  • 5+ years of experience in Talent Acquisition, Recruiting, or People Operations with at least 2 years at a startup in healthcare delivery or clinical services.
  • Proven track record building or managing full-cycle recruiting processes, successfully hiring clinician or operations roles
  • Experience building or significantly improving onboarding programs and candidate experience systems
  • Strong empathy, emotional intelligence, and relationship-building skills
  • Comfort with modern People tools and systems (ATS, HRIS, onboarding platforms)
  • Proactive problem-solver who thrives in fast-moving, ambiguous environments
  • Have a strong interest in growing into broader People leadership over time
  • Care deeply about improving access to mental health care and are aligned with Nema’s mission
